International School Celebrates The Next Generation Of Young Minds
North London Collegiate School (Singapore) comes with a rich heritage of providing a first-class academic education in an inspirational setting. For the last five years, this international school has been combining ambitious and aspirational education with outstanding pastoral care and a wide range of extra-curricular activities to inspire their students.
NLCS (Singapore) approached EFX to create a trophy to award to the winning House at the end of the academic year. They ran a student-led competition to design the trophy and our designers worked diligently to create the stunning final trophy, based on the drawings created by an incredibly talented Year 13 student! Inspired by the school’s four House Animals’ and the other main features in the original design, the striking award was created.
At NLCS (Singapore), all students, from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, are members of one of the four houses, all of which are named after endangered trees from our region and featured a House Animal: the Banjutan Dragons (Red), the Cengal Foxes (Yellow), the Keruing Cobra (Green), and the Meranti Merlion (Blue). Every two weeks they have a House Competition after school. Students from the four different Houses compete with each other in a series of competitions which are based on the sports, the subjects and the arts. Examples of competitions include: quizzes, poetry competition, swimming, Master Chef (cooking), debating and many others.
In Senior School, the House Competitions run throughout the entire academic year and for every competition, each House is awarded points based on their performance and the House with the most points wins the House Competition (in June) and receives the inaugural trophy. What a fantastic initiative to teach motivation, passion and teamwork to take with them in life!
Student-led Design
The original design shared with our design team featured the four House Animals converging towards a ball made of glass with the school’s logo inside, all made out of copper. We worked with the client to adapt the finished design into an award to give year on year. The final design featured the crucial House Animal element realised in EFX’s new bronze anodised finish, the orb with the school’s logo in cast acrylic and the other elements in stainless steel and black anodised finish aluminium. With the words ‘House Champion’ engraved on the base, the trophy will be able to be given out year after year. All together a masterpiece, to inspire the next generation of young minds from all over the globe! The first giving of the trophy will be in June 2025.
The client had this to say about their award and working with EFX – “We are so satisfied with our new House Competition trophy, it looks incredible!” …” I absolutely loved working with EFX. Your company is highly organised and very professional… Sophie Horton was a pleasure to communicate with.”
